Updating the fans…

If there are any. Well here is to hoping there are Galaxy Sailor Production fans out there. I thought I better get in here and update the site, and make some announcements as to what is happening in the filming world.

First off, the big project, The Last Stand, is about to release Episode 3 on Monday, February 1st, 2010. We are finished with all the special effects and we are completely scored music wise, and all the color is in place. Now we are getting our audio mixed and sweetened by Tag Team Audio. These guys are gems, and they have an extensive history of amazing work for some big dogs. I am pretty amazed that I have the opportunity for them to put the finishing touches on our audio. Once that is done, Episode 3 is out to the masses.

There are some films our there that I think need a tip of the hat for people to go out and see. First off, everyone is talking about Avatar. I did see Avatar, as a midnight movie, opening night, in Digital 3D. What did I think? Well, I have always been a Cameron fan, but I was left flat by Titanic. Cameron is the master at developing characters with texture and soul, despite the environments he creates (which are amazing). Look and ALIENS and The Abyss. These are movies that are amazing and beautiful and scary and dynamic, and the characters are the real starts, as well as amazing stories. That is what we care about: the characters and the story. I thought Avatar was meh in story and characters. I love Sigorney Weaver, but she was wasted in the film as a talent. There are also holes in the story. BUT! When the story involves our exploring of the environments and the textures created by the new digital 3D technology, Cameron is at the top of his game. If you were to compare Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace, the technology was pretty but it didn’t give us anything we didn’t already have, plus it failed in story and characters. While Cameron may have failed me with story holes, he created environments and textures that made me feel like I was truly part of something new. So with that, it is totally worth it!

Up next, people need to watch Food, Inc. and The Cove. They are harsh, brutal, and earth shattering in what you will learn of what people do to each other and the environment, but you have to be aware of what is done around you that you choose to ignore. We need to wake up, fellow humans, for we are our own worst enemy.

I think that is good for now. Galaxy Sailor, signing off…

Episode 2 of The Last Stand now out

Hey folks, we here at Galaxy Sailor Productions are the master minds behind The Last Stand. We just got Episode 2: Dearly Departed posted all over the place and we hope you come and check it out! Episode 3 is nearing completion in edits, so hopefully we will have music and special effects coming soon as well. Thanks for staying tuned. It was a tough road getting to Episode 2, but the increased quality in film and personnel should make it worth while. Please enjoy!

Episode 2 is in the edit bay

Well, folks, the fun never stops here. We have had two crazy weekends of shooting, with six scenes shot and one episode all finished. Now it is off to be edited and the journey to the web shall be complete.

It hasn’t been without issue, both good and bad. I think I will focus on the good to begin with.

Well, Rachel Tharp, aka The Oubliette, has taken on make up duties with her boyfriend Preston at her side. Their work has been amazing, to say the least, and it just keeps making The Last Stand better and better. Wow, did I just mention that there are zombies in episode 2? I think I did! Holy crap, there are zombies in episode 2. Now you have something to look forward to. Let the goo begin.

We locked in some of our big locations, so we rest easy knowing we have those little buggers out of the way. To catch you up, we have secured The Cotton Club, a 1930′s jazz club that has been shut down for decades. As well, we are solid on shooting in The Lotus, a 1920′s hotel that is condemned due to earthquakes will drop it. We get to run and jump and shoot stuff in there. Some more locations are needed, but our biggies are set.

Today, our audio issues couldn’t have been any worse I don’t think. Everything short of real gunfire could be heard. Apparently, Sunday morning is a good time to do heavy construction and train rail repair. Coupled with an increased volume of air travel, geese flying over head, and a band of blind folded Tibetan minstrels being all at peace with nature by ringing a brass bells and hiking up the hill, it made for an audio extravaganza. Yeah Audio!

OK, the compositing should go better!

Hot off the presses, over at The Last Stand

Yes, that’s right. More Guns! We got a run on painting all of our fake weapons, making them look as real as possible for filming. I am excited about how they look and how they are going to work for our scenes. All in total, we have 30 firearms between pistols, shotguns, and rifles.

More on buildings: we found and got locked into The Cotton Club in North Portland, an old jazz club in the 30’s, and shut down in the 90’s. The place is amazing, inside and out. It is tremendous to be able to film in such historic places. Also, what seems to be an old saw mill on the river has turned into a great place for exterior shots. Majorly cool!

It is all coming together!

Filming of four scenes during the weekend, so most of episode 2 is done and should be editing after next weekend. Yeah! IMG_2068IMG_2046IMG_2045IMG_2031IMG_2027

Updating the dead

Sorry it has been a while since I posted on here. I have been keeping up with posts on my web series blog at The Last Stand and haven’t kept the GSP followers well informed. Hopefully some of you have followed me over to TLS and are hanging out there, watching our progress.

Last Stand

Here it is: Conceived in 5 minutes; written in two hours; scouted/props/crew/actors in less than 24 hours; filmed in about 3 hours. This is as quick and dirty as anything I could imagine and still would want people to see.

When scouting for a different project, myself and Stephanie (one of the actors) found out this location was due for demolishing any day. After we scrambled to throw something together, 3 out of the 4 buildings had been bull dozed into rubble, leaving only this one standing. Literally, this buildings last stand.

Many folks didn’t show for the shoot, equipment never made it, and we raced against the light to do this with the skeleton bunch we had. All in all, I think it turned out pretty good!
