Work and living space come together

That’s right, a live work space that you would be happy about being a part of. A place where you would live and work with the only commute being across the room, across the hall, or across the campus. That is the hope and dreams of Milepost 5, in Portland, Oregon. This visionary concept was developed by people in the Portland area to be a new way of thinking and living and fostering the future of culture through the nurturing of the creative class.

This short documentary is one in an installment of small documentaries the shows how Milepost 5 came to be; from idea to move-in, the story of Milepost 5 is one for visionaries, artists, and all of those ready to embrace the change that will surely be the next stepping stone in cultural development.

Please check out Milepost 5 and look into the creative and collaborative ways people are choosing to live and work together.

Trailer for a new way of thinking

Heya folks.  Recently, Galaxy Sailor Productions finished a few shorts bits for some people over at Blue Voice Media.  If you haven’t heard about them, go check them out at www.bluevoicemedia.com and see all the exciting new things that great minds of Portland are thinking of in terms of media, art, communication, and how we view community.

I was fortunate enough to be able to edit some previously shot footage for BVM as well as shot and edited the test show for the soon to be program Showcase PDX.  This show will feature the talents of Michkael Baker (no type-o there, that is how he spells it) and the staff of people he has brought together to form Blue Voice Media.  The following is meant to be a teaser of things to come from BVM and Showcase PDX.  It’s quick, it’s fun, and hopefully has you asking for more.

Why some women take so long to prepare

This time it was worth it. I had the opportunity to film three ladies who were being dolled up for a salon competition. The entry was an avaunt gard, and the them was reptiles. The women spent about 5 hours preparing for the photo shoot at a private studio later in the day. This was done as a news piece but I took the footage and created my own spin on it. I took all the footage and sped it up 700 times normal to laps the time. I little color grading and a few magic bullets and you have the finished piece. The sign was done in Photoshop and After Effects.

Keeping up with GSP

Galaxy Sailor Productions recently completed entry for the “Drive Less Save More” competition.  Originally, this was an abandoned project due to music licensing issues.  I filmed the whole project around the intro of Welcome to the Jungle by Guns n Roses. Because GnR probably won’t let me use their music without paying a great deal of money, I couldn’t use it.  So I shelved the project, but have it posted at my VIMEO site.

Well, the people having the competition saw my video, liked it, and encouraged me to enter it.  A few GarageBand licks later and it is now in their little hands.  So here is to hoping!  I could use a new iMac Pro (but I hate Final Cut Pro!).

Special Olypmics Winter Games

“Martin’s [GSP] footage is spot on.  He was able to hit all the live events and capture the moments as they happened.  I would recommend Martin [GSP] and his talent any time.”

Lastly, GSP is in talks with the Himilayan Health Experience to film a documentary about volunteer doctors who visit the high mountains to help the villagers.  GSP is excited about the opportunity to tell the stories of the volunteers and the villagers in some of the most remote areas of the world.  Stay tuned!

Galaxy Sailor Productions in the SanFran Bay Area

Good morning San Francisco!  Galaxy Sailor is glad to introduce itself to the bay area.  We are available for weddings in the SanFran area.  We offer were reasonable rates as a traveling video company that is there for your special event.  Please feel free to contact us or see our SanFran page for more options.

Under Water Over Land has begun.

My first entry into competative documentary work has just finished.  The Under Water Over Land project is a competition that occurs every two months through the DVinfo boards.  The idea is to get nature documentarians, amature and professional, to compete in a short timeframe with small videos that are shot on specific subjects.  Each cycle, a topic is selected and the competitors have three weeks to shoot, edit, voice over, and upload their video.

This has been no small task to say the least.  It has been a crazy three weeks.  It is amazing how fast 21 days goes by when you create a deadline. All in all I am very glad I did this, and I will be competing again on the next challenge.  It was time for my hand to be called on doing this sort of shoot.  It seems like like was dealing out one thing or another as an excuse.  Now the excuses have stopped and the video is in.  We shall see what the critics think.

The video will be available for viewing soon on this site.  As soon as I get the finished project to VIMEO you will be able to watch until your heart is content.

Galaxy Sailor’s new look and new projects

Galaxy Sailor Productions is proud to unveil the new website.  I hope everyone who is a interested in my work will want to come back and see the new things happening with me and the business.

Galaxy Sailor has now branched out beyond the wedding videos.  Fear not, I still provide the Rogue Valleys finest video production for your weddings and special events.  Have begun to push my talents in the film realm and have begun filming and editing a series of different shorts films.  The first completed chapter of 10 Lines just wrapped today and I am please to say that it came out well.  The 10 Lines experiment is one in which directors and writers are encouraged to write a scene around the same 10 lines of dialog. The words and the order can’t be changed but the scenes and the number of people are up for interpretation.  The first installment consisted of a bomb, a tied up guy, and an unknown woman trying to free him.  In all it last 45 seconds.  we were very pleased to be able to create a story and have it happen in 45 seconds.  The scene was shot in a little over two hours with no rehearsal  and the actors had never worked with us (or really anyone) before.

Soon, GSP will be shooting other 10 Lines for local producers and directors wishing to participate in the project.  Also coming are shoots for a short scene called “The Terrible Mistake” and “The Curse.”

Stay Tuned!!
