Patrick’s Story

The word ‘marriage’ creates immediate definitions in our hearts and minds long before the word completes any sentence. While many take the word and idea of marriage for granted every day, others strive for the time when it is theirs as a right, and not just a privilege. For Patrick, a divorced father struggling to find himself at age forty, the word marriage means a world of acceptance that he had, at one time, not understood. Patrick and his husband, Christopher, were never married in the traditional sense, but that never limited them in how they felt for each other. When Christopher became ill, Patrick was the legal voice for the couple. A misunderstanding in what a Registered Domestic Partnership means resulted in Patrick’s removal from the hospital room. Listen to Patrick’s Story, hear the message, and understand why it is so important to realize what it means to be married for all people wishing to commit to each other.
