PDX Sucks brings back The Last StandToday, we myself and Rachel were on PDXSucks talking about zombies, The Last Stand, and our new episode coming out February 1st. You can listen in here, or check it out at the PDXSucks website. We are big supporters of what they do, and they are big supporters of what we do. A true match made in heaven. Robert and Sabrina, the hosts, have crossed the line beyond podcasting and beyond radio, to deliver the next evolution in entertainment and information. They are truly paving the way for the future, and I am glad to be a part of it.
PDXSucks Episode 219:Zombies, The Last Stand, zombie strippers, Harold Phillips, and shooting down tween excuses for love and horror.
Today I had the privilege of seeing Zack Learned, the boy I gave my helmet to a few months back. Zack was diagnosed with a form of Leukemia, and was possibly not going to make it. When Make a Wish came to us and asked us to build him a suit of armor for Comic Con, we jumped at the deal. Zack had wanted to go as part of the 212 Battalions Airborne Parjai squad. The helmet is very hard to come by, and I have one of the few in existence. So I donated mine to him.
Today, Make a Wish is having an air miles fund raiser and they asked Zack and I to make an appearance for the show. Here is our clip:
I am usually talking about where I am shooting, what I am shooting (film wise) and all the things film that I am currently doing as well as film work by others. Well today, the post is different.
Today I am posting pictures of my transformation from eating meat to not eating meat ever again. I have been working on being vegetarian, and eventually vegan, for about six months. I have been running at about 98%, with minor slips that have gotten easier to control. Meat is damn addictive, and I had to break its hold. To that as well, everything has meat in it. It is unbelievable how we use animal matter in so many things. It is worse to know that I have KNOWN for so long and done nothing about it. That has changed.
So, awhile back I had bought these cutting boards, one being labeled meat, the other veggie, so there would be no cross contamination. I haven’t had meat in any capacity in so long that it only seemed fitting to correct the issue in my labels. You can see that one board said MEAT, now reads NO MEAT. A clear definition of how it runs in my house. So I now have three cutting boards, none of which will ever have or be used for meat.
I am very proud of that.
Yes, that’s right. More Guns! We got a run on painting all of our fake weapons, making them look as real as possible for filming. I am excited about how they look and how they are going to work for our scenes. All in total, we have 30 firearms between pistols, shotguns, and rifles.
More on buildings: we found and got locked into The Cotton Club in North Portland, an old jazz club in the 30’s, and shut down in the 90’s. The place is amazing, inside and out. It is tremendous to be able to film in such historic places. Also, what seems to be an old saw mill on the river has turned into a great place for exterior shots. Majorly cool!
It is all coming together!
Filming of four scenes during the weekend, so most of episode 2 is done and should be editing after next weekend. Yeah!

All I know is that I love doing what I do. Chris Kimbell, who is a great script writer, just wrapping shooting The Hard Song. She had a tough script with a lot of emotion, and the fact that she was directing her own work to complete her vision is a heavy task. It is tough material, the stuff she wrote. It was a complex meeting between an estranged brother and sister in a park. The end result is some amazing work. I was luck enough to help with the script as well as DP/camera on this shoot. As well as shooting for Chris, I worked with Dave J, who is amazing in his own right, but he stayed in with us to do props and handy work, and will be doing the After Effects work on this baby. While your at it, you need to check out Christine Eisler, who put in a great performance.
From Dave J at Oregon Media Network:
Just finished working with Martin on Christen Kimbells “The Hard Song” twp day shoot. I’m not going to candy coat it, Martin knows what he is talking about, and will give the director the chance to plow ahead, but I didn’t see one instance when that opinion didn’t help the momentum, and keep things rolling, which is what a great DP does. I learned a lot just watching Martin work, and I look forward to the next time. Good luck on your upcoming Zombie series Martin, and once again, it was great to see you work.
Here it is: Conceived in 5 minutes; written in two hours; scouted/props/crew/actors in less than 24 hours; filmed in about 3 hours. This is as quick and dirty as anything I could imagine and still would want people to see.
When scouting for a different project, myself and Stephanie (one of the actors) found out this location was due for demolishing any day. After we scrambled to throw something together, 3 out of the 4 buildings had been bull dozed into rubble, leaving only this one standing. Literally, this buildings last stand.
Many folks didn’t show for the shoot, equipment never made it, and we raced against the light to do this with the skeleton bunch we had. All in all, I think it turned out pretty good!

Yes, folks, it is finally out here. This is from my tour of PDX Zombie Prom 2009. Folks, this was some of the most fun ever. If you see this video, then you have to go next year!
PDX Zombie Prom celebrated its 2nd year in business with all the blood, brains, and Spongebobs that one prom night could handle. There were two fantastic bands, Writhe in Agony and Toxic Zombie, that both blew the house away. Couple that with vendors of awesome horror memorabilia, a zombie hunting squad, a costume contest, and some of the best make up artists around, and you got yourself one sweet evening.
The weekend also include a zombie movie festival and a zombie parade through the streets of Portland.
For more information on the 2010 Zombie Prom (which is in the works now) go to pdxzombieprom.com, and tell them who sent you. It was DEATH!

This is one of the best weddings I ever got to film. These are two dear friends of mine, and it was my pleasure to be able to film their special day. Everything about this was perfect, and it was a filmers dream. I worked with a great photographer from New York, Min, from lifemagical. He is a fantastic photographer, and you really owe it to yourself to see his work. Astounding!
I hope you enjoy this wedding video for my dear friends.
Hey there folks. I wanted to get this video out and have people view it. I did this for my buddy, Jeff, who owns TreeCycle NW. Treecyle Northwest is an urban lumber utilization company from Portland Oregon.
They mill city grown tree’s into lumber that would otherwise be turned into firewood, or worse yet dumped into a landfill.
When a tree is removed they will salvage the lumber grade logs into high quality building materials.
Urban logging reduces the demand on natural forests while protecting natural habitat and wildlife.
THERE MISSION IS TO:
> Conserve our natural timber forests.
> Recycle trees already earmarked to be removed.
> Reuse what is here, in our local “urban forest.”
> Reduce transportation costs of wood products.
> Create heirloom from your own tree.
> Support local economy.

Hey folks. Well, a few months back, I was hired to film footage of the Special Olypmics International Winter Games in Idaho. What a trip that was. I spent an amazing week with my best friend and work partner Gautch, and we filmed all over the state.
This was truly an amazing event. The spirit and the heart is forever inspiring to me, and I have sworn to help the Special Olympics from here on out. You will never find a better group of people doing anything with as much heart and integrity as the people competing and volunteering.
LITHIA motors was a sponors for the games, and thanks to them, many of the events and needs were met, allowing the athletes to foucs on what they needed to do the most: compete.
This video was edited and produced my the video team and LITHIA Motors with much of the footage shot by Galaxy Sailor Productions as well as others. I hope you like what they did with it.
